History

In late 1990s/early 2000s, a group of horticulture industry professionals met regularly to develop a program that would connect consumers to the benefits of plants. Following months of meetings, the America in Bloom concept was formalized and launched. Officially founded in 2001, America in Bloom is modeled after proven, successful programs around the world, particularly in Europe and Canada.

We offer a national awards program for communities of all kinds, including cities, towns, townships, college and university campuses, business districts, military installations and identified neighborhoods of large cities. The program provides a framework for improving the overall quality of life for participants.

America in Bloom is a community building program that engages people of all ages and demographics. It is the only program of its kind that provides on-site, one-on-one mentoring and coaching by a team of expert judges who provide a detailed, written evaluation.

Since our founding, more than 240 cities in 41 states have participated.

We also offer online, on-demand free webinars on a variety of topics and an annual educational symposium in a different city each year.
