
Jeff Wilson
Jeff Wilson, Ph.D., has 40+ years of horticulture experience, beginning at an early age. He worked for a retail garden center and sod farm in north Alabama for 7+ years. He also owned a design, installation, and maintenance business for 10+ years. For 22 years, he served as a Horticulturist for Mississippi State University Extension. In this role, he also spent 2 years as the State School Gardens Coordinator for the MSU Office of Nutrition Education. This work helped schools educate children on growing and eating healthy food. Since 2018, he has served as the Mississippi State Master Gardener Volunteer Coordinator. He oversees 50+ county Master Gardener groups with 1,400+ volunteers statewide.
In each of these positions, his work has helped communities plan, design, and improve their city landscapes. He has taught numerous municipality employees’ proper installation, maintenance, and pruning practices, with over 1,100 horticulture presentations given. Jeff is known for giving practical, real-world, applied landscape advice.
Jeff received his B.S. and M.S. in Ornamental Horticulture from Auburn University and his Ph.D. from Mississippi State University in Agricultural Information Sciences and Education. He is also a Certified Arborist (ISA) and a Certified Professional Horticulturist (ASHS).
